The series
January 8: Lights and Darks Your time to shine! We’ll be exploring radiance with a limited palette of earth tones, as did Rembrandt and other old masters, chiaroscuro painting by candlelight (and some LED lights).
January 15: Outsiders Only
Jean DuBuffet was a rogue artist of his time, influenced by “outsider art” - the art of children and graffiti artists. We’ll be expressing our inner outsider, focussing on linear black and white and primary color compositions.
January 22: Snowy Blue Landscape
Feeling blue? Bring your favorite snowy landscape photo, or use the one provided, and learn to render it in mostly shades of blue. We’ll take a glance at Frederic Remington’s color palette. Whether or not you enjoy Westerns, you can’t deny the psychological impact of his choice of color, particularly of his blue(ish) Nocturnes.
January 29: Green Gardens Influenced by Rousseau and other surrealists, and using botanical illustrations as inspiration, we’ll be styling our own imaginary green gardens in playful anticipation of spring.
February 5: The Passion of Red The Fauvists (“wild beasts of art”) explored the expressive, emotional qualities of red, and we will too, primarily focussing on the human form.
February 12: Freestyle Color!
Time to splash down and mix your own palette as we explore our feelings of love (and rejection!). Bring a photo of your loved one (person or pet). There will be plenty of chocolate to go around.
